ՓՆՏՐԵԼ       #13 (114) / Դեկտեմբեր 2009   Ashot MARKOSYAN, Makar PETROSYAN ARMENIA FACING MARKET ECONOMY CONSTRUCTION: ACHIEVEMENTS AND FORTHCOMING KEY ISSUES The establishment of market relations in transition economies was determined by a number of specific characteristics, the analysis of the most important of which the authors have presented in this article. As a result of dynamic development of economy GDP per capita increased 20 times in 1994-2008. However, the same thing cannot be said regarding population,s living standards, better quality of life, as well as ensuring the competitiveness of economy and integration of goods and services in world markets. In order to provide sustainable economic growth and mitigate external factors (total crisis, regional developments, transport and geographical factors, etc.) first of all it is necessary to ensure competitiveness of the economy. By analyzing international experts, assessments on Armenia,s economic competitiveness of the latest years and studying the strengths and weaknesses of the country,s economy, the authors came up with recommendations on Armenia,s strategy of further socioeconomic development.
