SOWING THE SEEDS OF AN INNOVATION ECOSYSTEM IN ARMENIA

Innovation is critical to the creation of a knowledge-based
economy which in turn is vital to a country like Armenia that
is landlocked, has scarce natural resources and faces high
transportation costs.

Innovation is the driving force for economic development and
enhancement of competitiveness. Armenia currently faces a
problem of establishment of National Innovation System.
Prohibiting the decay of inherited actives and competitive
advantages should be the first step to achieve that goal. In parallel
all the components of national system of innovation should
be developed.
Armenia,s firm traditions in the spheres of mathematics
and natural sciences, the existence of world famous scientists,
and the inherited research capacities, together with
relevant investments, assisting mechanisms and right
strategic orientation may serve as a good base for the
establishment of knowledge-based economy.
Based on the modernity of the issue, the analysis of innovation
system has become a pivotal theme of National
Competitiveness Report of Armenia 2009, published by
Economy and Values Research Center, the main ideas of
which found reflection in the article.
