ՓՆՏՐԵԼ       #13 (114) / Դեկտեմբեր 2009   Ashot MARKOSYAN, Makar PETROSYAN LIBERALISM AND ECONOMIC PROGRESS The authors have examined certain indices of the former communist countries for the whole period of transition. It is mentioned that low productivity of those countries became especially apparent after being able to compare their indices with those of capitalist economies. It is the price that the nations of the former system currently pay for bad economic organization and low productivity. The article addresses the principles of a number of crucial issues on liberal economic theories regarding economic policy, the role of the state, lifestyles of the society and the people. Some professionals, more precisely non professionals consider deepening global financial and economic crisis, which the whole world faces presently, as defeat of liberalism and crisis of that study for which mankind has paid high cost. The last couple of years of the economic crisis were marked with considerable decrease in the population , s welfare level, increase in the number of unemployed and in poverty rates. However to accuse liberalism (i.e. market) in something it did not have even little participation means to increase politicization of the economy, which in the end caused market self-regulatory regime and power weakening, bringing about the current state of affairs.
