ՓՆՏՐԵԼ       #12 (113) / Նոյեմբեր 2009   Arman Gabrielyan ABSOLUTE POVERTYMEASURES IN ARMENIAAND TURKEYIN 2008 In 2008 poverty index in Armenia was 23.5% being 6.4 percentage points higher than in Turkey, although in the two countries poverty estimates are not directly comparable, as they are based on different poverty lines and equivalence scales. This article aims to compare poverty in Armenia and Turkey based on the same absolute measure. For that purpose we have re-calculated Armenian grouped consumption data taking into account the difference of equivalence scales in the two countries. Then based on parametric estimation of Lorenz curve and Turkish complete and food poverty lines Armenian poverty index, poverty gap index and poverty severity index have been re-estimated.
